The Arc of California is the legislative advocate of California’s 22 Arc Chapters and is based in Sacramento.  The Sacramento team meets often with the Governor’s office, along with The Department of Developmental Services, The Department of Rehabilitation, and related agencies.  In addition, Arc California meets regularly with Legislators on issues such as funding for services, criminal justice, preschool education for kids with developmental delays, prevention, and In Home Support Services (IHSS).

The Arc California also participated in a number of rallies at the State Capitol over the years mostly to protest funding cuts.

It’s important work.  But here’s where you come in: Legislators want paid advocates to be backed-up by “real” people.  Here’s how you can help:

  1. Browse The Arc of California’s website and check out all the issues it deals with.
  2. Become a member.  (Becoming a member of a local chapter such as The Arc of Alameda County means you are automatically a member of The Arc of California).
  3. Sign up for Action Alerts to get information on important legislation and who you should contact to express your opinion.

Support The Arc of California in its efforts.  It’s quick and easy to contact your local legislators and it makes a HUGE difference.  Often The Arc provides some words to get you started composing your message.  Visit by clicking here.
