The Office of Disability Employment Policy is part of the U.S. Department of Labor. Its job is to evaluate and recommend policies leading to a higher employment rate for people with disabilities. Go to the ODEP website.
People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities have a horrible employment rate especially when it comes to finding jobs in a competitive integrated environment (CIE). CIE means our folks have a job at a real business, making at least minimum wage and are working alongside co-workers who are not disabled.
In other words NOT a job paying sub-minimum wage (a certificate program developed in the 1930s carried out under section 14(c) of the Fair Labor Standards Act that allows paying wages less then minimum wage to folks with I/DD). The job should also NOT be at a place that hires only people with I/DD.
